GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of full fall competition for conference men's and women's golf teams. Grand Valley State senior Bryce Wheeler and Ferris State senior Kamryn Shannon received recognition.
MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Bryce Wheeler, Grand Valley State
For the first time in his career, Grand Valley State senior golfer Bryce Wheeler has been named GLIAC Golfer of the Week. Wheeler helped lead the Lakers to a victory at the UIndy Invitational, setting or tying two program records in the process. He took the individual win, the second of his career, by carding rounds of 68, 64, and 69 to total a 201 (-15), winning by four strokes. His 36-hole score of 132 tied a program record, and his 54-hole score of 201 set a new mark by one stroke. Additionally, the Lakers finished the event at -51, also achieving new program records for team 18-hole (269), 36-hole (539), and 54-hole (813) team records. The win was the second of the fall for GVSU through only three tournaments.
WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Kamryn Shannon, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior golfer Kamryn Shannon led the Bulldogs to a third-place overall team finish at the Warrior Invitational held Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22-23, in Washington, Mich. Shannon tied for first overall in the field with a 219 figure for the 54 holes of action as FSU placed third in the team race. She carded scores of 72 in round one, 73 in round two and 74 in the final round while finishing in a four-way tie atop the leaderboard. It marked Shannon's second top-five finish in two fall competitions to date this year.
