GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fifth and final weekly awards of the fall season for conference men's and women's golf teams. Grand Valley State swept the awards, with senior Charlie Cooley and senior Rachael Krieger earning recognition.
MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Charlie Cooley, Grand Valley State
Following his first career victory, Grand Valley State men’s golfer Charlie Cooley has been selected as the GLIAC Men’s Golfer of the Week. This is the first time in his career that Cooley has earned the honor from the conference. The senior won the Nemacolin Intercollegiate, helping the Lakers earn the team trophy as well. Cooley shot a 208, carding rounds of 73, 68, and 67 to finish at eight under par. He made 14 birdies over the three rounds to climb up the leaderboard on the final day and get the win. The second-ranked golfer in the country has three top 10 finishes this fall and has played a big part in the Lakers being the top team in the country.
WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Rachael Krieger, Grand Valley State
For the second time this fall, Grand Valley State women’s golfer Rachael Krieger has been named the GLIAC Women’s Golfer of the Week. The senior helped lead the Lakers to the tournament title at the Nemacolin Intercollegiate earlier this week, finishing in a tie for fourth. She carded rounds of 77, 76, and 77, making nine birdies. This is Krieger’s fourth top five finish this season, also recording a tie for first, a runner-up finish, and a third-place finish in just six tournaments this fall. Krieger is ranked 35th nationally by Scoreboard and has helped GVSU rank fifth as a team.
