GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its third weekly awards of the fall season for conference men's and women's golf teams. Parkside sophomore Shane Stanley and Ferris State senior Kamryn Shannon were recognized for their standout play.
MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Shane Stanley, Parkside
Shane Stanley of the Parkside men’s golf team was named the GLIAC Golfer of the Week. The sophomore finished as a runner up at the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate, held at Cog Hill Golf Club on the historic Course No. 4 Dubsdread. Stanley came up just short of medalist honors on the second playoff hole. Stanley finished with a three-round total of 221 (+5), highlighted by an opening-round 70 (-2) and nine total birdies. It marks the highest individual finish of his short Parkside career. As a team, the Rangers captured the tournament title by 16 strokes, finishing at 900 (+36).
WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Kamryn Shannon, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior golfer Kamryn Shannon claimed individual medalist honors as the Bulldogs came away with a fifth-place team finish early this week (Oct. 6-7) at the Beall Fall Classic held at the Findlay (Ohio) Country Club. Shannon finished at two-over par for the 54 holes of play. She shot a 72 in round one, a 70 in round two and a 76 in round three while tying for first place overall with Findlay's Ashleigh Duflo. Shannon then won a six-hole playoff for medalist honors to garner the tournament win. In the playoff, both players made par on each of the first five holes of play. On the sixth hole, which was hole #8 on the course, Shannon got up and down from just short of the green for par and Duflo three-putted from 30 feet. Shannon also earned All-Tourney team recognition along with her tournament win.
