The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 5 of the 2026 football season. Grand Valley State wide receiver Kellen Reed (Offensive Player of the Week), Ferris State safety Nick Flegler (Defensive Player of the Week) and Grand Valley State placekicker Mathew Bacik (Special Teams Player of the Week) were selected for recognition.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kellen Reed, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State senior WR Kellen Reed tied a GLIAC and GVSU single-game record with five receiving touchdowns in the Lakers 69-3 victory over Wayne State. Reed, who hauled in eight receptions for 177 yards in just a little over two quarters of action, notched 106 yards after catch in the game. GVSU's first four touchdowns were all attributed to Reed, the first three in the first quarter. His five scoring plays covered 46, 31, 39, 10 and 27 yards. Reed's five TD receptions tied the GVSU and GLIAC mark previously set by David Kircus versus Ferris State in 2001. Reed has 35 reception for 735 yards and a nation's leading regardless of division TD catches total of 14. In addition, his 14 receiving touchdowns is currently sixth on the GVSU single-season list just five games into the season. Reed also leads the nation in receiving yards (735) and receiving yards per game (147.0).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nick Flegler, Ferris State
Ferris State University safety Nick Flegler led the top-ranked Bulldog defense in a decisive 42-0 GLIAC-opening road win over Northern Michigan on Saturday at the Superior Dome in Marquette. The FSU defense was dominant, allowing less than 50 yards of total offense thru three periods of action. Flegler had a team-high six tackles with a sack for 13 yards and 2.5 tackles for loss for negative 17 yards in the win. His play helped the Bulldogs move to 5-0 overall this year and win their 35th consecutive game overall.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mathew Bacik, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State place kicker Mathew Bacik was 8-for-8 in point after attempts and kicked field goals of 33 and 28-yards for 14 total points in the the Lakers' 69-3 victory over Wayne State. Bacik averaged 57.6 yards on seven kickoffs and the Warriors average starting field position following a kickoff was the 17.3 yard line. Bacik also notched one touchback on the day. Bacik is 32-for-32 in PATs on the season and 5-for-5 in field goals.
