GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 9 of the 2025 men's soccer season. Northern Michigan sophomore forward Ian Weimer was selected as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Saginaw Valley State senior midfielder Ryan Bovee was honored as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ian Weimer, Northern Michigan
Sophomore forward Ian Weimer of the NMU men’s soccer team has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for week nine. A native of Mariettea, Ohio, Weimer has been in a terrific run of form for the Wildcats as of late, scoring goals in three consecutive matches, including two over the weekend in the 2-1 and 3-0 wins over Roosevelt and Purdue Northwest. Weimer opened the Wildcats' senior weekend by scoring the game-winning goal in the win over Roosevelt, ending the Lakers’ dreams of becoming back-to-back GLIAC Regular Season champions. He then followed that up with a goal on Sunday in the team’s win over the Pride, aiding the Wildcats’ move into third place in the GLIAC standings and ending the regular season with seven wins, the best finish in NMU men’s soccer history. Weimer started both games, turning in 73 and 83 minutes of playing time in each match, firing three shots, and scoring from both of his shots that found the target. Since earning an elevated role a the beginning of October, the forward has four goals and an assist in eight games, and is currently riding a three-game goal streak into the postseason.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Bovee, Saginaw Valley State
Ryan Bovee led the defense as the team outshot Davenport 38-4 and in a tightly contest match, was outshot 8-7 against St. Cloud State. The Cardinals midfield and defenders stopped the counterattack allowing the offense to outshoot their opponents 45-12 and led in shots on goal 17-5. SVSU posted their seventh and eighth clean sheets of the season. This is Bovee’s first GLIAC Player of the Week honor of his career and the seventh for men’s soccer this season.
