Saginaw Valley State earns top spot in 2026 GLIAC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced on Wednesday the results of the 2026 men's soccer preseason poll, as voted on by the league coaches.

Reigning GLIAC regular season champion Saginaw Valley State was selected No. 1, receiving six first-place votes and a total of 36 points. The Cardinals will be headlined offensively by Matty Telfer, who tallied a team-high 18 points last season, and defensively by goalkeeper Nick Kay, the GLIAC leader in goals against average in 2025.

Trailing SVSU by six points, at the No. 2 position, earning one first-place vote is Roosevelt. Forward Fynn Mewes, the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and the conference leader in points per game a year ago, will lead the Lakers.

Defending GLIAC Tournament champion Northern Michigan was ranked third in the poll with 23 points. One point behind the Wildcats, in fourth, was Parkside.

Davenport, who returns the 2025 GLIAC Freshman of the Year in Charlie Davis, polled fifth with 18 points.

Purdue Northwest was selected to place sixth (11 points) followed by St. Cloud State (7).
