SVSU's Kouyate and PNW's Alvear named GLIAC men's soccer players of the week

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 9 of the 2026 men's soccer season. Saginaw Valley State midfielder/forward Amadou Kouyate (Offense) and Purdue Northwest goalkeeper Estefano Alvear (Defense) were recognized.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Amadou Kouyate, Saginaw Valley State
Amadou Kouyate has earned his first GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week award after a three-assist performance in the final week of the regular season. Kouyate got things going with a dish on the first goal in a 2-2 draw against Davenport on Wednesday. The goal was scored just 33 seconds into the game. He followed that up with a two-assist outing at Northern Michigan on Sunday. The second-year midfielder booted two perfect corner kicks into the box for Kai Forsyth to head in, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 win over the Wildcats and securing the GLIAC Regular Season Championship.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Estefano Alvear, Purdue Northwest
Purdue Northwest Men’s Soccer freshman goalkeeper Estefano Alvear has earned this week’s GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, his second this season. Alvear delivered another outstanding performance for Purdue University Northwest during the final week of the regular season, recording a shutout victory over Roosevelt to help the Lions officially secure their spot in the GLIAC Tournament and earn the right to host a conference quarterfinal matchup. Alvear started both matches during the week, playing all 180 minutes in goal. He opened the weekend against St. Cloud State on Friday, making two saves while allowing just one goal in PNW’s 3-1 victory. His performance helped the Lions secure an important win as they continued their push toward the postseason. Alvear followed that outing with a phenomenal performance in Sunday’s regular-season finale against Roosevelt, recording five saves and shutting out the Lakers in a 2-0 victory. Facing 14 total shots, the freshman goalkeeper turned away every attempt on target, delivering a perfect 1.000 save percentage while preserving the clean sheet. His shutout against Roosevelt was particularly significant, as the victory officially secured Purdue Northwest’s place in the GLIAC Tournament and guaranteed the Lions a home quarterfinal matchup. Alvear’s ability to make critical saves and keep Roosevelt off the scoreboard played a major role in the team's postseason-clinching victory. Across the two matches, Alvear totaled seven saves while allowing just one goal over 180 minutes of action. He finished the week with a 0.50 goals-against average and helped PNW close out the regular season with consecutive victories.
