The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 5 of the 2026 men's soccer season. Northern Michigan forward Luca Rosen earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors and Saginaw Valley State defender Kai Forsyth was honored with GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Luca Rosen, Northern Michigan
NMU men’s soccer senior captain, Luca Rosen, has been selected as the GLIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week. The London, England, native opened the weekend with an 85-minute performance against regional superpower Roosevelt, where he scored the lone goal for the ‘Cats in the 1-1 draw against the Lakers, securing a point against a team that hasn’t lost at home in 19 consecutive matches. Rosen followed that up with a goal and an assist against St. Cloud State to round out the weekend, assisting on the eventual game-winning goal from James Carr before adding a tally of his own just 13 minutes later, emphatically becoming the program’s leader for single-season goals with 11 on the year. After the weekend, Rosen paces the entire DII landscape in goals (11), goals per game (1.22), points per game (2.78), and is second in total points (25) and shots on goal per game (2.67).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kai Forsyth, Saginaw Valley State
Forsyth played in 168 of the 180 minutes over the weekend as the Cardinals drew 0-0 against Purdue Northwest and Parkside. He led a defensive core that held the Lions to four shots and only one on goal in the first match of the weekend. Then, the Rangers totaled 14 and five but the team outshot UWP 13-5 in the second half along with outshooting PNW 9-1 in the final 45 minutes as SVSU controlled the back half of both matches. This is the second GLIAC Player of the Week award for SVSU men’s soccer this season and the first for Forsyth’s career.
