GLIAC –- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the men's soccer postseason awards for 2025, as voted on by the league's coaches.
Saginaw Valley State graduate student midfielder Eoin Farrell was named the inaugural GLIAC Player of the Year. Farrell made a significant impact in his return from injury, finishing the season with seven goals, one assist, and 15 points. Despite missing non-conference action, he immediately bolstered the Cardinals in GLIAC play, recording braces against both Roosevelt and Davenport and adding goals in three other matches. Operating in the heart of the midfield, Farrell helped dictate a dominant style of play that saw SVSU outshoot opponents 306–102 and outscore them 32–10 on the year. His presence was pivotal to the team’s 10-2-4 record and its run to a second straight GLIAC regular season championship.
Roosevelt forward Fynn Mewes was honored as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year. Mewes made an instant impact for Roosevelt and was named the 2025 GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts. The graduate student from Germany led the conference with 10 goals and 23 points, coming up with clutch strikes for the Lakers. Mewes led the league with five game-winning goals, including two that came in the final 10 minutes of a match. He scored a goal in nine of his 16 appearances for Roosevelt this season and recorded a point in 11 matches. Mewes was also highly efficient, scoring on 28.6 percent of his shot attempts and putting more than half of his shots on target.
Saginaw Valley State senior defender Kolja Thomas is the 2025 GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. Thomas served as the backbone of the Cardinals’ defensive unit, logging 1,337 of 1,440 possible minutes and missing just one match all season. His reliability and consistency anchored a back line that allowed only 10 goals while helping fuel an offense that generated a 306–102 shot advantage over its opponents. Thomas contributed on the scoresheet as well, scoring twice and adding an assist on 23 shots, showcasing his ability to influence the game on both ends of the field. His efforts were instrumental in SVSU’s strong two-way play throughout the season.
Parkside redshirt junior Daniyal Rana has earned GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors for 2025. For the second straight season, redshirt senior goalkeeper was named GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC. Rana led the league with 111 saves — 19 more than any other goalkeeper — while averaging 6.94 saves per match. He ranked third in goals-against average (1.48) and posted three shutouts, starting all 16 matches for the Rangers.
GLIAC Freshman of the Year was awarded to Davenport midfielder Charlie Davis. One of four Panthers to start and play in every match so far this season, Davis has been a driving force for Davenport’s attack. The true freshman midfielder from London, U.K. leads the team in goals (5), points (16), assists (6), shots (52), shots on goal (26), and game-winning goals (3)—numbers that are still climbing as the Panthers continue postseason play. Davis has recorded five or more shots in eight contests, including season highs of six shots on two occasions. He netted his first collegiate goal in the season opener on Sept. 4, helping DU secure its first opening-day victory since 2002. Davis’ breakout performance came in a 3–1 win over Northern Michigan, where he tallied two goals and one assist for a season-high five points, along with five shots—three on target. Following that standout weekend, he was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring directly off a corner kick—an Olimpico. Over that two-game stretch, Davis totaled three goals, one assist, seven points, and 10 shots, with five on frame.
GLIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors went to Saginaw Valley State. Head coach Louis Barrow and assistants Adam McAleenan and Jake Nunner guided SVSU to another outstanding campaign, securing back-to-back GLIAC regular season titles and earning the No. 1 seed in the GLIAC Tournament. The Cardinals posted a 10-2-4 record and a .750 winning percentage—an improvement over last season’s mark that propelled the program to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Under the staff’s direction, SVSU led the GLIAC in goals, assists, shots, shots on goal, goals allowed, and corner kicks, while also tying for the most shutouts, reflecting a complete and balanced team performance on both sides of the ball.
