GVSU's Mehta and RU's Herrera named GLIAC women's soccer players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 8 of the 2025 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State junior midfielder Sonya Mehta was tabbed as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and Roosevelt senior goalkeeper Roxy Herrera was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sonya Mehta, Grand Valley State
Junior midfielder Sonya Mehta has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. Mehta scored two goals and dished out two assists for six points in the 6-1 win against Michigan Tech on Sunday. She opened the scoring in the sixth minute against the Huskies and assisted on the game-winning goal in the 27th minute. The junior scored the final goal of the game in the 54th minute as the Lakers would notch their highest scoring game of the season. Mehta ranks second on the team with five goals and four assists and is third with 14 points this season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Roxy Herrera, Roosevelt
For the second time in her career, Roxy Herrera has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of sparkling performances for Roosevelt. The senior from Chicago made four saves in an unlucky 1-0 loss to Saginaw Valley State, helping to keep the Lakers in the game.
