SCSU's Folstad and RU's Carvajal selected GLIAC men's soccer players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 9 of the 2024 men's soccer season. St. Cloud State fifth-year senior midfielder Mika Folstad earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition while Roosevelt junior goalkeeper Eric Carvajal was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mika Folstad, St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State Fifth Year Mika Folstad was crucial part of the offense in the Huskies 1-0-1 weekend. After trailing 2-0 at halftime against Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday, Folstad helped spark the comeback for St. Cloud State by scoring a goal in the 52nd minute. The Huskies would ultimately tie 2-2 against the Rangers as Folstad recorded a goal and two shots on goal. Sunday’s game against Purdue Northwest was tightly contested with the teams tied 1-1 late into the game. The Huskies created a break opportunity in the 78th as Folstad dished out the game-winning assist to Philip Caputo who would ultimately give St. Cloud State the 2-1 victory. For the week, Folstad finished second in the conference with three points and was one of two players to tally a goal and an assist.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Eric Carvajal, Roosevelt
Eric Carvajal kept his fifth and sixth clean sheets of the season to help backstop Roosevelt to a share of the GLIAC regular season title. The junior keeper from Arlington Heights, Ill. made seven stops against Davenport to keep the Lakers in the match for a late winner. He then stopped all three shots he faced Sunday against No. 9 Saginaw Valley State to preserve the 1-0 win. After this weekend, Carvajal has shutouts in three straight matches and four of his last five starts.
