WSU's Hurtubise and Portillo receive GLIAC golfer of the week awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of fall competition for conference men's and women's golf teams. Wayne State swept the awards, with senior Tyler Hurtubise and freshman Claudia Portillo earning GLIAC Golfer of the Week honors.

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Tyler Hurtubise, Wayne State
Senior Tyler Hurtubise (Essex, Ont. / Essex District) was named GLIAC Men's Golfer of the Week for the first time in his career on Wednesday. The honor comes after Hurtubise took home Medalist Honors in a field of 54 on Tuesday at Wayne State's Motor City Shakedown at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Mich. Hurtubise earned the first individual title of his career and fifth top-10 placing as a Warrior.  The Ontario native carded a 140 (-4, 70-70), the lowest 36-hole total of his career, while the 70 is two shots off his personal best that he set in round three of Hillsdale's Get To Foundation Invitational on Sept. 17.
WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Claudia Portillo, Wayne State
Freshman Claudia Portillo (Madrid, Spain / IES Ortega y Gassett) was named GLIAC Women's Golfer of the Week for not only the second time this season, but second week in a row on Wednesday. Portillo tied-for-seventh among 93 players at Findlay's William Beall Fall Classic on Tuesday at Findlay Country Club in Ohio. The rookie did so thanks to a 218 (+2, 76-71-71) and she's been WSU's top finisher in three of four tournaments so far this season, all of which were top-10 showings. That includes her Medalist Honor at the inaugural Warrior Invitational on Sept. 23-24.
