BAY CITY, Mich. --
Tiffin University junior forward Ashton Campbell (Luton,
England) was named the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men’s soccer “Offensive
Player of the Year,” while Ohio Dominican University senior
defender A.J. Mueller (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), was
named “Defensive Player of the Year” in balloting
conducted by the league’s coaches.
University of
Findlay midfielder Alex Oliver (Hamilton,
Ohio/Ross) was honored with the league’s
“Freshman of the Year” award, while Willy
Merrick, who guided Ohio Dominican to a second-place
finish in the GLIAC regular-season standings, earned “Coach
of the Year” accolades.
Campbell, a junior forward from Luton,
England, earned his second GLIAC “Offensive Player of the
Year” honor by leading the GLIAC in goals (15) and points
(36), while tying for third in the conference in assists (6). He
previously earned GLIAC “Offensive Player of the Year”
accolades in 2008 as a freshman. Campbell ranks in the top-10 in
Division II in points and goals. He is a three-time First Team
All-GLIAC honoree who also earned All-Region honors in 2009.
Mueller, a senior captain, started all 18
games as the defensive anchor in the backfield that ranked third in
the GLIAC with 20 goals allowed and a 1.11 goals against average.
Mueller collected two of the Panthers four team saves on the year,
including one at home in the 88th minute against Tiffin that helped
preserve the 1-1 draw.
Oliver played in 15 games for the Oilers and
contributed a goal and an assist during his first season. The
Hamilton, Ohio native also ranked third on the team with nine shots
on goal and took 20 total shots during the 2010 campaign.
Competing at the
Division II level in the GLIAC for the first time, Ohio Dominican
third-year head coach Willy Merrick guided the
Panthers to a 12-5-1 overall mark, including a second-place finish
in the conference with a 9-2-1 record and the No. 2 seed in the
GLIAC tournament. ODU reached a season high No. 22 in the polls
after defeating fourth ranked Charleston (W.Va.) in overtime on the
road in October.
