DU's Muterspaugh and WSU's Whalen selected as GLIAC women's soccer players of the week

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 2 of the 2026 women's soccer season. Davenport forward Audrey Muterspaugh (Offensive Player of the Week) and Wayne State Ellie Whalen (Defensive Player of the Week) were selected for recognition.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Audrey Muterspaugh, Davenport
Audrey Muterspaugh, true freshman forward for the Davenport University women’s soccer team, earned GLIAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring three goals across two matches to help the Panthers earn a pair of dominant shutout victories. Muterspaugh scored once in the Panthers’ 4-0 win over Jamestown before adding two goals in a 5-0 victory over Ohio Dominican. She finished the week with three goals and six shots on goal, helping Davenport extend its unbeaten start to the season. Through four matches, Muterspaugh has recorded three goals and two assists for eight points on nine shots, with eight of those attempts on goal.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ellie Whalen, Wayne State
Wayne State University freshman defender Ellie Whalen (Commerce Township, Mich. / Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, WSU's second honoree in as many weeks. Whalen's recognition comes after she helped lead the Warriors to a 4-0 start to the season thanks in part to wins over Ohio Dominican (4-0) and at Madonna (2-0) this past week. Whalen's 75 minutes of play and defensive efforts catapulted the Warriors to two more shutouts. Additionally, the rookie scored the program's first home goal, also the first of her career, in the 21st minute of Friday night's shutout victory over the visiting Panthers.
