Parkside's Leininger and WSU's Brengman named GLIAC women's soccer players of the week

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 1 of the 2026 women's soccer season. Parkside forward Mary Leininger (Offensive Player of the Week) and Wayne State defender Reagan Brengman (Defensive Player of the Week) were honored.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mary Leininger, Parkside
Mary Leininger made an immediate impact during the opening week of her collegiate career, earning the first GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the 2026 season. The Parkside women’s soccer true freshman scored three goals, including two game-winners, while leading the Rangers to victories over Winona State and Lewis. Leininger made her collegiate debut Aug. 27 at Winona State, scoring twice and recording four points in the road victory. She netted the game-winning goal and placed all three of her shots on goal. Three days later, Leininger delivered another decisive performance in her home debut against Lewis. She scored the game-winning goal on her only shot of the contest to help the Rangers secure their second victory of the week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Reagan Brengman, Wayne State
Wayne State University senior defender and team captain Reagan Brengman has been selected as the GLIAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead the Warriors to a 2-0 start in the first two games in program history. Brengman started and played all 90 minutes in both road matches and anchored a defensive unit that did not allow a goal in 180 minutes and just five shots on goal in 11 total shot attempts. WSU earned a 2-0 victory at Northwood as the backline limited the Timberwolves to just five total shot attempts, including two on goal. In Sunday's 1-0 triumph at Detroit Mercy, Brengman again led the Wayne State defense that held the Titans scoreless on just three shots on goal and six total shot attempts.
