WSU's Mroue and Helfen receive GLIAC women's soccer players of the week honors

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 7 of the 2026 women's soccer season. Wayne State swept the honors, with forward Sienna Mroue (Offensive Player of the Week) and goalkeeper Kate Helfen (Defensive Player of the Week) earning recognition.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sienna Mroue, Wayne State
Wayne State University freshman forward Sienna Mroue (Dearborn, Mich.) collected her second-career GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.  Mroue led Wayne State to a historic 3-1 victory at No. 5-Grand Valley State on Sunday, handing the Lakers their first GLIAC loss of the season. The triumph also secured the program's first win over a ranked opponent.  Mroue was involved in all three WSU goals on Sunday, scoring on both of her shots on target and assisting Olivia Jasniewicz’s (Troy, Mich.) game-winning goal.  Mroue currently leads the GLIAC in goals (9), points (21) and shots on goal (23), while sharing the league lead with three game-winning scores.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kate Helfen, Wayne State
Wayne State University redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Kate Helfen (Troy, Mich. [Cincinnati]) was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.  Helfen’s first-career recognition comes after she anchored the back line for the Warriors in a shutout against Saginaw Valley State on Friday, saving all six of the Cardinal shots on goal to notch her fifth clean sheet of the season.  On Sunday, Helfen recorded four saves while allowing one goal against No. 5-Grand Valley State.  For the weekend, Helfen made 10 saves on 11 shots, while recording a win and a tie.  She is currently second in the GLIAC in both goals-against average (0.73) and save percentage (.814) and is tied-for-first in shutouts (5).
