GVSU's Fromm and SVSU's Wilberding recognized as GLIAC women's soccer players of the week

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 6 of the 2026 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State forward Sarah Fromm (Offensive Player of the Week) and Saginaw Valley State goalkeeper Ava Wilberding (Defensive Player of the Week) were selected for honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sarah Fromm, Grand Valley State
Junior forward Sarah Fromm has been named the GLIAC offensive player of the week for the first time this season. Fromm scored one goal and dished out one assist in the 3-0 road win against Davenport. She scored in the 6-0 shutout home win against Roosevelt marking three straight games with a goal scored. Fromm notched five shots with four on target in the win over Roosevelt and two shots on goal against Davenport.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ava Wilberding, Saginaw Valley State
Ava Wilberding earned a pair of one-goal victories over the weekend with a 2-1 win against Parkside and a 3-2 win over Purdue Northwest. The fifth-year goalkeeper made 12 saves, recording five against the Rangers and seven against the Pride, as the Cardinals were outshot 35-22 overall and 15-11 in shots on goal. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native also assisted on the game-winning goal in the final minutes of Friday’s match, sending a deep pass ahead that led to the scoring opportunity. Wilberding posted a 1.50 goals-against average and a .800 save percentage to help the Cardinals pick up six conference points and move within one point of Grand Valley State for the top spot in the GLIAC. This is the first GLIAC Player of the Week award for SVSU women’s soccer this season and the first of Wilberding’s career.
