GVSU's Fleming and Avery earn GLIAC baseball player and pitcher of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its awards following the ninth week of the 2026 baseball season. Grand Valley State swept the awards, with freshman designated hitter Josh Fleming earning GLIAC Player of the Week recognition and  junior righthander Owen Avery receiving GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors. 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josh Fleming, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State freshman DH Josh Fleming played a key role in Grand Valley State's four-game GLIAC road sweep at Roosevelt. Fleming hit .750 for the series, going 9-for-12 with three home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs, 10 runs scored, 20 total bases, three walks, two hit by pitches and two stolen bases. Fleming reached base in 15-of-18 plate appearances and tallied a 1.667 slugging percentage, .737 on base percentage and a 2.404 OPS for the weekend. Fleming ended the weekend with a 3-for-3 outing that included five RBI, two home runs and four runs scored.  
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Owen Avery, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State junior pitcher Owen Avery yielded just a fifth inning double as the Lakers claimed a 6-0 shutout victory at Roosevelt. Avery went six innings, yielding just one hit with two strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .056. Avery improved to 6-0 on the year with a 2.62 ERA and 33 strikeouts.
