GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2026 tennis spring season. Ferris State junior Kevin Kovacs and Grand Valley State sophomore Natasha Sengphrachanh received recognition.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kevin Kovacs, Ferris State
Ferris State University junior standout Kevin Kovacs led the Bulldogs during last week’s spring break trip to Florida. Kovacs started the week by recording a pair of wins against Florida Southern, which included a straight-set sweep at one singles and a doubles win at the third flight. He picked up two more wins on Tuesday in a 7-0 triumph over Augustana, recording a 6-2, 6-2 win at one singles and a 6-0 decision at three doubles. His lone setback of the week came to the nation’s #28 ranked Marc Mail of nationally-ranked Embry-Riddle in a tightly-contested 5-7, 6-0, 5-7 decision on Thursday when he also moved up to two doubles and recorded a close 7-6 (7-4) win while paired with Felipe Iser. In FSU’s final match of the trip against Eckerd on Friday, the duo posted a 6-4 win at two doubles and he won 6-2, 6-2 at one singles before play was halted due to weather. For the week in Florida, he finished with an overall 7-1 record, including a 3-1 singles mark and a 4-0 doubles record as FSU improved to 9-3 overall this year.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Natasha Sengphrachanh, Grand Valley State
Natasha Sengphrachanh has been named the GLIAC women's tennis player of the week for the third time this season. Sengphrachanh posted three wins at the top singles position and two wins at the top doubles position. The sophomore notched a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win against Jefferson and a 6-1, 6-1 win over Tampa. She won a three-set match against Florida Southern and is 7-0 in singles on the season all from the top position. In doubles action, Sengphrachanh claimed a 6-0 win over Jefferson and 6-3 win over Tampa with partner Vale Mozas. Sengphrachanh is 8-1 in double play this season, all from the top position.
