RU's Caicedo and GVSU's Briggs named GLIAC tennis athletes of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of the 2026 tennis spring season. Roosevelt freshman Juan Caicedo and Grand Valley State freshman Mischa Briggs were selected for recognition.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Juan Caicedo, Roosevelt
Juan Caicedo was named the GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after a stellar start to his spring this past weekend. The freshman from Colombia went unbeaten in three singles matches at the No. 1 spot, including a 6-4, 6-1 win over UIC's Simon Knezevic for Roosevelt's only point against the Division I Flames. Caicedo was also 2-1 on the doubles court with partner Justus Peters at the top position. The performances helped the Lakers earn 5-2 wins over Rose-Hulman and Hope College before falling 6-1 to UIC. 
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Mischa Briggs, Grand Valley State
Mischa Briggs has been named the GLIAC women's tennis player of the week for the first time in her career. Briggs helped GVSU to a pair of non-conference wins against Tiffin and McKendree. The freshman posted two wins at the No. 2 singles position and two wins at the No. 2 doubles position. In singles action, Briggs claimed a dominant 6-0, 6-0 straight set win against McKendree and a 6-1, 6-2 straight set win against Tiffin. In doubles action, she posted two 6-0 wins with doubles partner Ipek Sakiroglu. The Lakers have started the season 5-0 and will host Northwood on Friday, February 20th at 12:00 PM.
