GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth week of the 2026 tennis spring season. Ferris State sophomore Jose Perez and Grand Valley State sophomore Natasha Sengphrachanh were selected for recognition.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jose Perez, Ferris State
Sophomore Jose Perez led the Ferris State University men's tennis squad to a pair of wins this past week as FSU improved to 8-1 overall this year and stretched its winning streak to seven consecutive matches. Perez recorded a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win over Western Michigan's Tim Riedel on Friday in the Bulldogs' impressive 5-2 triumph over the NCAA Division I Broncos, which resulted in FSU's first win over a D1 school in at least 20 years. He also teamed up with Kacper Pasielak for a 6-1 win at two doubles in the contest. He came back on Saturday to notch two more wins in FSU's 7-0 sweep of Hillsdale, winning 6-3, 6-1 at two singles and pairing up again with Pasielak for a 7-5 triumph at two doubles. For the weekend, he went a perfect 4-0.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Natasha Sengphrachanh, Grand Valley State
Natasha Sengphrachanh has been named the GLIAC women's tennis player of the week for the second time this season. Sengphrachanh claimed a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 three-set win at the top singles position in the Lakers 7-0 sweep against Northwood. She also claimed a 6-3 win at the top doubles position with partner Vale Mozas. This spring, Sengphrachanh is 4-0 in singles action all from the top position and 3-1 in doubles action. The sophomore is ranked as the number one singles player in Division II and has helped GVSU to a 6-0 record this season.
