GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2026 tennis spring season. Ferris State swept the honors, with junior Kevin Kovacs and freshman Madeline Peisley receiving recognition.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kevin Kovacs, Ferris State
Ferris State's Kevin Kovacs earned a pair of wins on Sunday (March 8) as the Bulldogs opened up action on their annual spring break trip in Florida. He topped nationally 15th-ranked Mario Garoz of Florida Southern by a 6-3, 6-3 count in straight-sets and paired up with Felipe Iser for a 6-3 win at three doubles in the match. On Tuesday (March 10), he came back to notch a 6-2, 6-2 win at one singles in a 7-0 sweep over Augustana (S.D.) at the USTA National Courts in Florida and posted a 6-0 decision at three doubles with Iser in the contest. For the two matches, he finished with a perfect 4-0 record as the Bulldogs improved to 9-2 overall this campaign.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Madeline Peisley, Ferris State
Ferris State's Madeline Peisley led the Bulldogs on Sunday (March 8) as FSU opened its annual spring break trip to Florida with a narrow 4-3 setback at Florida Southern. Peisley claimed a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 triumph at one singles in the match and teamed up with Yara Madi for a close 7-6 (7-3) setback at two doubles. On Tuesday (March 10), she emerged victorious by a 6-2, 6-0 count at one singles in a 4-3 loss against Augustana (S.D.) at the USTA National Courts in the Sunshine State and paired up with Madi in a 6-1 setback at two doubles. For the two outings, she finished with a perfect 2-0 mark at the top singles position in the FSU lineup.
