GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 1 of the 2025 men's soccer season. St. Cloud State senior forward Andrés García earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition while Roosevelt senior goalkeeper Eric Carvajal was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrés García, St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State senior forward Andrés García produced a strong start to the season and helped the Huskies go 1-1. In the Huskies 3-1 season opening victory against Upper Iowa, García came up big for the Huskies by drawing a key penalty in the box at the 52nd minute mark. He took the penalty kick himself and delivered a strike to break a 1-1 tie. The goal ultimately went on to be the game-winning goal. That would be García’s first goal since 2021 after persevering through multiple injuries. In St. Cloud State’s 3-2 loss against Truman State, García again found the back of the net which broke a 0-0 tie early in the second half. For the week, García led the GLIAC in points with four and goals with two. He also produced two shots with both landing on goal while playing 127 minutes.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Eric Carvajal, Roosevelt
Eric Carvajal earned his second GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping Roosevelt to an unbeaten first weekend of play in 2025. In Thursday’s opener, the senior from Arlington Heights, Ill. made five saves to help the Lakers start the season with a 1-0 win over Thomas More in Kentucky. Carvajal made six stops Saturday, including saving a penalty kick, as the Lakers drew 1-1 against Ohio Dominican. The goalkeeper leads the GLIAC with 11 saves and a .917 save percentage after the first two games and has not allowed a goal from open play since Oct. 20 of last season. The Lakers open their home schedule Wednesday evening against Missouri St. Louis at Morris Field.
