GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 2 of the 2025 women's soccer season. Roosevelt sophomore midfielder Bella Perry was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Saginaw Valley State senior goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bella Perry, Roosevelt
Bella Perry was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after scoring the first two goals of her career in Saturday's 3-2 win over Thomas More. The sophomore opened the scoring by chipping the goalkeeper from 31 yards out in the sixth minute. She saved her best for last and came up clutch with two minutes left by heading home a free kick to cap off a wild final five minutes to secure the win. The Lakers are riding a two-game winning streak into conference play this week and have scored 10 goals in three games, already outpacing last year's totals.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lainey Garbarz, Saginaw Valley State
Saginaw Valley State senior goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz started both games for SVSU as they defeated Walsh 6-0 and Findlay 3-1. The senior goalkeeper played just over 60 minutes against the Cavaliers, earning a share of the shutout. She then stopped nine of the 10 chances by the Oilers, not allowing Findlay to take a lead throughout the game. This is Garbarz’s second GLIAC Player of the Week award of her career and the first for women’s soccer in 2025. SVSU is back at home to host Grand Valley State and Davenport this week to open GLIAC play.
