GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 1 of the 2025 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State sophomore forward Sarah Fromm was honored as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Northern Michigan redshirt junior goalkeeper Jillian Thompson received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sarah Fromm, Grand Valley State
Sophomore forward Sarah Fromm has been named the GLIAC offensive player of the week for the first time in her career. Fromm scored three goals on four shots on goal over the weekend including two game-winning goals. Fromm scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute in the 1-0 win at Ashland on Thursday. She followed it up with two goals on Saturday including the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to help lead GVSU to a 3-2 win at Cedarville.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jillian Thompson, Northern Michigan
NMU women’s soccer goalkeeper, Jillian Thompson, is being honored as this week's GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. In her first start since September 7, 2024, Thompson made five saves to aid the Wildcats to a 1-1 draw against the St. Cloud State Huskies, marking the second-most single-game saves in her collegiate career, and just two shy of a career high. Thompson got the nod to start again on Sunday against the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, where she made three saves to help the Wildcats to a scoreless draw and earn her first shutout since November 12, 2023. Through two matches, Thompson has played every minute of action and leads GLIAC netminders in goals against (1), goals against average (0.500), save percentage (0.889), shutouts (1), and is third in saves (8).
