Coming off a 2024 campaign that featured the program’s most wins (nine) since 2021 and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since that same year, the Davenport University men’s soccer team has been picked to finish fourth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) preseason poll, the league announced Monday.
Head coach Chris Hughes enters his 14th season at the helm in 2025 and welcomes 14 newcomers to the roster, including 11 true freshmen and three transfers.
The Panthers return four seniors this season, highlighted by Austin Hall, who logged 1,856 minutes of match play last season, and Max Wilhelm, who totaled 1,450 minutes.
Davenport also features several key underclassmen. Easton Lopez, the 2024 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, returns after earning D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team and First Team All-GLIAC honors. Sophomore goalkeeper Beau Hudd played 1,478 minutes in net last season and was recognized as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28, 2024. Forwards Drew Matyunas and Henry Lopez both return after being key contributors last season, logging significant minutes on the field.
The Panthers welcome three new additions to the coaching staff for the 2025 season: Domenic Baumann, Cam Power, and Sean Kelly. Baumann, Power, and Kelly each bring a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the program.
DU opens the 2025 season with five non-conference matchups, beginning Sept. 4 at Ohio Dominican with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Panthers will host 10 matches at home and play seven on the road this fall.
