GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fifth week of the 2025 baseball season. Grand Valley State swept the awards, with junior first baseman Jovan Gill receiving GLIAC Player of the Week recognition and redshirt sophomore righthander Owen Avery earning GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jovan Gill, Grand Valley State
Junior 1B/P Jovan Gill led #9 Grand Valley State to a four-game series sweep over Gannon. Gill hit .471 (8-17) with six runs scored, nine RBI, two doubles, two home runs. In addition, he had a slugging percentage of .941, on base percentage of .474 and an OPS of 1.415. Gill closed the series sweep when GVSU needed his offensive production, going 4-5 with four runs, six RBIs, two home runs and a double in a 19-13 win. Gill close out the contest with a scoreless ninth inning. Gill ranks first in the GLIAC in RBIs with 25 and ranks second in home runs with five.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Owen Avery, Grand Valley State
Sophomore Owen Avery picked up the win (3-2) in game one of the four-game series with Gannon. Avery yielded just one unearned run on three hits with 11 strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. Avery retired the first nine batters in order and the first base runner reached in the fourth on an error. He struck out the side in the fifth. In his last two outings Avery has allowed seven hits and one earned run with 20 strikeouts and just one walk. On the year he has 33 strikeouts and just three walks with a 3.32 ERA.
