GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of competition of the 2024-25 swimming & diving season. Awards were presented to Grand Valley State junior Raul Briceno (men's swimming) and junior Lucy Hedley (women's swimming) in addition to Wayne State senior Julio Osuna (men's diving) and sophomore Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru (women's diving).
MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Raul Briceno, Grand Valley State
Raul Briceno was named Swimmer of the Week after competing in a head to head meet against University of Indianapolis. Brecino competed in the 500 yard freestyle placing second with a time of 4:37.59. He also competed in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:35.16 to take second place. Brecino was also a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay that took fourth with a time of 3:08.38.
WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Lucy Hedley, Grand Valley State
Lucy Hedley led the Lakers in 3 first place events. Hedley competed in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle with times of 51.08 and 1:50.67 to take first in both events. She was also a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay that took first with a time of 3:28.88. Hedley took second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.83.
MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Julio Osuna, Wayne State
Senior and UIndy transfer Julio Osuna (Tijuana, Mexico / Instituto Mexico) was named GLIAC Male Diver of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday. Not only did Osuna come out on top for the 6 dives both boards against No. 21 Davenport on Friday but broke the Matthaei Natatorium record at both heights. The first-year Warrior finished with a score of 349.35 at one meter (old record was 339.50) and 374.18 at three meters (old mark was 359.50)
WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru, Wayne State
Sophomore Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) was named GLIAC Female Diver of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday. The honor comes after Wadsworth-Curcuru won both the one-meter and three-meter boards against No. 13 Davenport on Friday night. The Kalamazoo native did so with scores of 243.38 and 234.75, respectively, completing on 6 dives for both boards.
