EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- For the first time since 2015, Wayne State has a men's diving National Champion. Competing on the one-meter board on Wednesday night, Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) finished atop the eight-man podium with a finals mark of 536.25 and became a five-time All-American (four First Team, one Second Team).
"Max put on a masterclass in consistency today," said head diving coach Jason Trout. "In a field with a deep depth of talent, he was able to hold consistent throughout the entire meet averaging a score of over 7.5 on dives to take home the first male National Champion in diving since 2015."
That 2015 National Championship was captured by Wayne State Hall of Famer Dylan Szegedi on the three-meter board thanks to a final total of 587.65. Szegedi also proved to be the best in the country two years prior for the one-meter height with a score of 529.65.
