BIG RAPIDS, Miich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad, which captured the 2026 Midwest Region title this week to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships, will take on Washburn University (Kan.) in the D2 Sweet Sixteen on Wednesday, May 20, in Surprise, Ariz.
The Bulldogs drew the #10 seed for the national championships in the round of 16 bracket released by the NCAA and will face the seventh-seeded Ichabods at 3 p.m. (ET) on May 20 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
Ferris State enters the D2 Sweet Sixteen with a 19-3 overall record and the Bulldogs are riding a 10-match winning streak. FSU defeated Northwood 4-1 in the Midwest Region final to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in nine years.
Meanwhile, the Ichabods are currently 19-5 overall and have won their last 14 matches in a row. They topped Ouachita Baptist 4-0 to advance out of the Central Region for the fourth-straight year.
Presently, Washburn is ranked #11 in the nation while the Bulldogs are listed as #19 in the national rankings.
The winner will advance to the national quarterfinals on Thursday, May 21, and face either second-seeded West Florida or 16th-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas with the national semifinals on May 23 and the national championship match on May 24 in Arizona.
Ferris State will advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in school history and the first time since 2017. The Bulldogs won the regional in Big Rapids in back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017 to advance to the national championships where they eventually reached the Elite Eight in back-to-back years, including a final four showing in 2016.
Along with capturing the regional title, the Bulldogs also won the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship this year and won the league's postseason tournament.
