FSU's Kovacs and DU's Opray named GLIAC tennis athletes of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2026 tennis spring season. Ferris State senior Kevin Kovacs and Davenport sophomore Sienna Opray received recognition. 

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kevin Kovacs, Ferris State
Ferris State University junior tennis standout Kevin Kovacs had another big weekend as the Bulldogs started conference play with a pair of league road wins. Kovacs opened the weekend with a pair of wins on Friday in FSU’s 7-0 sweep over Davenport, recording a three-set triumph at one singles along with a 6-4 victory at two doubles in the Bulldog lineup. He then came back on Saturday to post a 6-2 win at the second doubles position in FSU’s 5-2 victory at rival Grand Valley State and emerged with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 triumph at one singles. For the weekend, he posted a perfect 4-0 mark as FSU improved to 11-3 overall and started conference play with a 2-0 record.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Sienna Opray, Davenport
Sienna Opray of the Davenport University women’s tennis team was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week. The nod comes after going a perfect 2-0 in singles play this past weekend. Against Ferris State on Friday (March 27), Opray secured a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win at the No. 3 slot. She followed that up with another singles victory on Saturday (March 28) against Wayne State, winning 6-4, 7-6 again slotted at No. 3 singles.
