GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its awards following the fifth week of the 2026 softball season. Saginaw Valley State senior infielder Olivia Elliott was named GLIAC Player of the Week while Parkside sophomore righthander Casey Jo Vermett received GLIAC Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Olivia Elliott, Saginaw Valley State
Saginaw Valley State senior infielder Olivia Elliott finished 3-for-5 with six RBI in the sweep over Davenport this past week. She hit a home run for both of her at-bats in game one that drove in four runs in the 12-2 win. In game two, she went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Her lone hit came in the third inning when she hit a single to right field that scored two runs and tied the game.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Casey Jo Vermett, Parkside
Casey Jo Vermett of the Parkside softball team has been named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career following a dominant two-start stretch in the circle. Vermett turned in a historic performance on Thursday, tossing the 18th no-hitter in program history in game two of a doubleheader at Quincy. The right-hander struck out a career-high 14 batters in the 7-0 victory, becoming just the 11th player in program history to record a no-hitter as the Rangers completed the sweep. She followed that outing with another standout performance on Saturday against Grand Valley State, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out eight in a 2-0 win in game two of the doubleheader. For the week, Vermett went 2-0, totaling 14 shutout innings while striking out 22 batters and issuing just five walks across two complete-game efforts. She currently leads the GLIAC with 66 strikeouts this season and is averaging more than nine strikeouts per seven innings.
