Parkside's Johnson and RU's Hancock selected as GLIAC softball player and pitcher of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its awards following the first week of the 2026 softball season. Parkside senior catcher/infielder Mia Johnson earned GLIAC Player of the Week recognition and Roosevelt junior pitcher Kailey Hancock was honored as GLIAC Pitcher of the Week
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mia Johnson, Parkside
Parkside softball senior and reigning back-to-back GLIAC Player of the Year Mia Johnson has been named the GLIAC Player of the week for her big offensive performance over the six opening games in Rosemont. Johnson hit a scorching .611 with an OPS of 1.807, going 11-18 with five runs scored and six extra base hits. Additionally, she drove in seven and was walked five times. She was also perfect over 13 chances at third base for the Rangers.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Kailey Hancock, Roosevelt
Kailey Hancock was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week after a dominant effort at the Lewis Invitational this past weekend. The junior from Chicago was 2-0 with a save and 0.48 ERA in four appearances to help Roosevelt finish 4-2 at the event against some of the best teams in the Midwest. Hancock came on in relief to pick up the win against St. Cloud State on Thursday, throwing four innings without allowing a run and surrendering just two hits. She threw a complete-game three-hit shutout with four strikeouts against Bemidji State on Friday before getting out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam Saturday against William Jewell. Hancock finished the weekend by picking up the save by throwing 2.2 innings against Lewis to help the Lakers beat the Flyers for the first time in program history.
