WSU's Drenth and Ruyssen selected as GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the 12th week of the 2025 tennis spring season. Wayne State senior Cedric Drenth and graduate student Anais Ruyssen were selected for recognition.

MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cedric Drenth, Wayne State
Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) helped the Wayne State University men's tennis squad to a 5-2 victory over Ferris State University to close the regular season.  In his singles match, the senior nabbed a 7-5, 7-5 win in the No. 1 position and became WSU's all-time leader in singles matches won with 105.  In doubles competition, Drenth, along with his partner Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School), prevailed 6-2 over the duo from FSU.
WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Anais Ruyssen, Wayne State
Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais [Keiser]) aided the Wayne State University women's tennis team to a crucial 7-0 win against Ferris State University to finish with a perfect 8-0 ledger in conference play and claim the GLIAC regular season title.  The graduate student nabbed a pair of wins in the match against the Bulldogs.  In singles competition, Ruyssen downed her opponent 6-2, 6-1 while battling in the No. 1 position.  The WSU student-athlete and her partner, Dea Gorgidze (Tbilisi, Georgia Tbilisi Public School N145 [Western Michigan]), triumphed over the FSU pairing 6-4 in the No. 1 slot.
