WSU's Drenth named GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Year; All-GLIAC teams revealed

MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2025 All-GLIAC Men's Tennis Team on Friday following the opening matches of the conference tournament at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.

Wayne State's Cedric Drenth was named GLIAC Athlete of the Year, Davenport's Daniel Calver earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors and Grand Valley State was selected as GLIAC Men's Coaching Staff of the Year. Ferris State's Alessandro Santangelo was also honored as the recipient of the GLIAC Men's Tennis Sportsmanship Award.

2025 GLIAC ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Cedric Drenth, Wayne State
Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) helped the Wayne State University men's tennis squad to a 5-2 ledger in GLIAC competitions and a No. 2-seed in the conference tournament.  The senior tallied a 23-8 mark in singles competition while being 24-7 in doubles play with his partner George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College).  The WSU student-athlete earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors three times during the 2024-25 campaign while falling in just two GLIAC matches, holding a 6-1 ledger in both singles and doubles competition.  Drenth sits atop the record book for WSU in both career singles victories (105) and career doubles victories (121) and is the only Wayne State men's tennis student-athlete to capture over 100 wins in both.  The honor now marks the second time that Drenth has earned the award (2022-23, 2024-25), and fourth consecutive time that a WSU men's tennis player has been named GLIAC Player of the Year.
2025 GLIAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Daniel Calver, Davenport
Daniel Calver becomes the second Panther to earn GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors after Quintan van Wijk in 2022. The native of Johannesburg, South Africa, helped DU to an overall record of 15-8 this season. He compiled a record of 15-9 overall in singles, including a 5-2 mark in GLIAC matches. He was 2-0 during dual matches at one singles and 12-6 at two singles. He was also able to pick up 13 doubles wins overall this season. He finished the season winning six of his last seven singles matches.
