FSU's Kovacs and LSSU's Whip tabbed GLIAC Tennis Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the 11th week of the 2025 tennis spring season. Ferris State sophomore Kevin Kovacs and Lake Superior State redshirt junior Maddie Whip were selected for recognition.

MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kevin Kovacs, Ferris State
Ferris State University’s Kevin Kovacs helped the Bulldogs extend their winning streak to four consecutive matches with back-to-back road wins this past weekend at Purdue Northwest and Roosevelt. Kovacs picked up a three-set win at one singles on Friday in a 4-3 road win at #29 Purdue Northwest while also teaming up with his brother Erik for a 6-3 win at one doubles. He then came back on Saturday for a decisive 6-0, 6-2 win at the top singles position against Roosevelt and recorded a 6-4 win at the first doubles spot. For the weekend, he went a perfect 4-0 overall as the Bulldogs improved to 11-6 on the year and 5-1 in conference play.
WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Maddie Whip, Lake Superior State
Lake Superior State redshirt junior Maddie Whip came away with a strong weekend at Grand Valley and Davenport, coming within four points of going unbeaten in both singles and doubles while playing exclusively at the No. 1 positions. On Friday, she shook off her first GLIAC doubles loss after a hard-fought battle that ultimately ended in a tiebreaker before grinding out a 6-4, 7-6 victory over GVSU’s Neus Ramos. Then on Saturday, Whip helped her team secure the all important doubles point at Davenport with a 6-4 win, and in singles, her victory of 7-6, 6-4 over DU’s Sienna Opray gave the Lakers a second team point to help them to a 4-3 win over the Panthers.
