GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2025 tennis spring season. Grand Valley State junior Denys Zamaraiev and Wayne State junior Malak Arafat were selected for recognition.
MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Denys Zamaraiev, Grand Valley State
Denys Zamaraiev has been named the GLIAC men’s tennis player of the week for the second time this year. Zamaraiev helped lead the Lakers to a pair of huge road wins against Ferris State and No. 18 Wayne State. He posted a 4-1 record going 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles. Zamaraiev claimed a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win at the top singles position against Ferris State to help GVSU defeat the Bulldogs 5-2. He tallied a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles and a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 three-set win at the top singles position in the 4-3 win at No. 18 Wayne State. Zamaraiev is 11-2 on the season in singles play all from the top position. GVSU sits atop the GLIAC standings with a perfect 4-0 conference mark.
WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Malak Arafat, Wayne State
Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie) helped the Wayne State University women's tennis squad earn two victories this past weekend. In the match against Davenport University, the junior prevailed in singles 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, and in doubles, 6-2, with her partner Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que. / Collège de Montréal High School). When facing Grand Valley State University, the WSU student-athlete once again posted two wins as she triumphed 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 in singles competition, and 6-3 in doubles competition.
