GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of the 2025 tennis season. Ferris State sophomore Kevin Kovacs and Grand Valley State senior Neus Ramos were recognized.
MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kevin Kovacs, Ferris State
Ferris State University's Kevin Kovacs had a strong weekend as the Bulldogs opened regular-season play with a pair of matches against longtime regional powers Indianapolis and Drury. Kovacs posted a 2-0 mark in Saturday's opener versus UIndy, winning a three-setter at one singles and teaming up with his brother Erik Kovacs for a 6-3 win at the number one doubles flight. He came back on Sunday and battled in a pair of tough setbacks against Drury in neutral site play at the top spots in the lineup. Kovacs ranks as one of FSU's most experienced returning players this year and was an All-GLIAC selection a year ago while claiming the GLIAC Freshman of the Year honor in helping lead FSU to a second consecutive league regular-season championship.
WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Neus Ramos, Grand Valley State
Neus Ramos has been named the GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time this season. Ramos claimed a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 three-set win at the top singles position to help GVSU sweep McKendree 5-0 in the season opener. The Lakers will open up their home schedule this weekend with a pair of in-region matches against Tiffin and Findlay.
