GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2025 tennis season. Wayne State senior Cedric Drenth and Ferris State freshman Yara Madi were selected for honors.
MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cedric Drenth, Wayne State
Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) helped lift the Wayne State University men’s tennis squad over the University of Indianapolis 4-3. While competing in the No.1 doubles position, Drenth and his partner George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) triumphed 7-6 over the Greyhounds top pairing. In singles play, the senior claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the No.1 spot as well.
WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Yara Madi, Ferris State
Ferris State University women’s tennis newcomer Yara Madi had a strong weekend for the Bulldogs as FSU opened the home portion of the 2024-25 schedule with a regional split inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center. Madi teamed up with Aimee Reynoso for a 6-4 win at three doubles in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Tiffin while also recording a three-set victory at three singles in the victory. On Sunday, she came back to record a 6-4 win with Reynoso at three doubles in FSU’s setback to Findlay before recording a 6-2, 6-2 win at three singles, accounting for the Bulldogs’ one singles win in their first setback of the year. Overall, she went 4-0 for the weekend as the Bulldogs moved to 3-1 overall this campaign.
