Tech's Lange and Parkside's Steiner GLIAC recognized with cross country athletes of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of competition of the 2024 cross country season. Michigan Tech senior Samuel Lange was honored as GLIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, while Parkside freshman Abbi Steiner received GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week accolades.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Samuel Lange, Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech men’s cross country senior Sam Lange placed eighth overall in a field of over 350 runners at the Roy Griak Invitational to help the No. 26 nationally-ranked men of Michigan Tech take runner-up honors in the Jo Rider men’s Maroon race, scoring 91 points. The Washington, Illinois, native moved up 14 spots in the final 3,000m to become the Huskies low-stick clocking a time of 25:16.6.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Abbi Steiner, Parkside
After an impressive fifth place finish at the highly competitive Roy Griak Invitational, Parkside’s Abbi Steiner is the GLIAC Runner of the Week. Steiner ran a time of 22:31.3 in her first 6k race for the Rangers. She jumped out to sixth place over the first mile, then was able to gain a spot over the back half of the race to secure the fifth place finish. Steiner now has two top five finishes in her short career for Parkside Cross Country. She won the Vic Godfrey Open to go along with her fifth place finish this week.
