GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of competition of the 2024 cross country season. Grand Valley State senior Caleb Futter was selected GLIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, while GVSU senior Abby Olson honored as GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Caleb Futter, Grand Valley State
Caleb Futter was named GLIAC Cross Country’s Male Athlete of the Week for his exceptional performance at Friday’s Michigan State Spartan Invitational. The senior placed first in the men’s collegiate 8k with a time of 24:42.3 with a 4:58 pace. This outing marked immense improvement for Futter; he placed 17th at last year’s Spartan Invite, crossing the finish line at 25:10.8.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Abby Olson, Grand Valley State
Butler transfer Abby Olson received GLIAC Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week honors following her second-place finish at the Spartan Invitational. In her first race as a Laker, Olson ran a 5:46 pace to cross the finish line at 21:32.1. The senior’s performance helped Grand Valley’s women’s squad take second at the Invite.
