GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fifth week of competition of the 2024 cross country season. Michigan Tech senior Samuel Lange received GLIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week recognition while Wayne State senior Reagan Justice was selected GLIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, both for the second time this season.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Samuel Lange, Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech cross country senior Sam Lange placed 25th in a field of over 330 runners to lead the No. 23 ranked men’s team to a seventh-place at the Lewis Crossover hosted by Lewis University on Saturday. The Washington, Illinois, native repeated as the top-finisher for the second-straight meet for the Black & Gold, nearing his personal-best for 8k with his time of 24:33.6. Lange helped MTU best six teams among the top-30 nationally in the final big meet of the regular season.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Reagan Justice, Wayne State
Reagan Justice (Canton, Mich./Salem) crossed the finish line seventh at the ninth annual Lewis Crossover. The senior finished the race at the 21:13.72 mark as she helped the Warriors claim 11th place overall as a team. The veteran runner was able to improve upon her 2023 time at the Lewis Crossover (21:59.10) by 45.38 seconds. Justice will look to nab her fourth top-10 outing of the 2024 season on Friday, Oct. 18, where she will compete at the SVSU Red October Meet, hosted by Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Mich.
