The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 2 of the 2026 men's soccer season. Saginaw Valley State forward Matty Telfer (Offensive Player of the Week) and Roosevelt goalkeeper Cedrik Strupler (Defensive Player of the Week) were honored.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Matty Telfer, Saginaw Valley State
Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer’s Matty Telfer has earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Telfer scored a pair of goals against Northern Michigan in the last 10 minutes of a 4-1 win. The first came just under a minute after checking back into the match. He totaled four shots, all on goal, over the two games as the Cardinals remain undefeated after a 1-0-1 weekend. Telfer is tied for the goal lead in the GLIAC with four over his first four matches. SVSU men’s soccer is undefeated after winning two and drawing two of their opening four matches. The No. 6 team in the rankings fell one spot after the 1-0-1 weekend and are now ranked 7th in Division II by United Soccer Coaches (USC).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cedrik Strupler, Roosevelt
Cedrik Strupler is the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after backstopping Roosevelt to a 1-0-1 record in two road contests. The freshman from Switzerland helped the Lakers survive an early press from UMSL, saving a penalty kick just 15 minutes into the match to change the momentum. He stopped both shots he faced in a 2-0 win over the Tritons before stopping seven shots, including six in the first half, of a 1-1 tie against Lake Erie. Cedrik now has two clean sheets in his three starts with two wins and a draw on his record.
