PNW's Mudis and WSU's Long named GLIAC softball player and pitcher of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its awards following the sixth week of the 2026 softball season. Purdue Northwest freshman outfielder Sylvia Mudis was honored as GLIAC Player of the Week while Wayne State junior righthander Sydney Long was selected as GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sylvia Mudis, Purdue Northwest
Purdue Northwest Softball freshman outfielder Sylvia Mudis turned in a breakout week at the plate, providing a major spark to the Pride offense across five games. Mudis recorded seven hits in 14 at-bats for a .500 batting average while scoring three runs and driving in seven. Mudis opened the week with an impressive performance in a win at Parkside, going 2-for-3 with two RBI while adding both a double and a triple. She continued her production during the weekend series, highlighted by a two-hit, two-RBI effort against Ferris State that included both a triple and a home run. She carried that momentum into Sunday’s doubleheader sweep over Davenport, collecting three hits across the two games with three RBI. Mudis drove in a run in the opener before delivering a two-hit, two-RBI performance in game two, including a double. In total, Mudis tallied four extra-base hits on the week, including two doubles, two triples, and two home runs, consistently producing in key moments for the Pride lineup and recording a massive .950 slugging percentage. Defensively, Mudis was solid in the outfield, recording five putouts without committing an error.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Sydney Long, Wayne State
After allowing a run in each of her first two innings on Saturday against Parkside, Long tossed 17.1 consecutive scoreless innings.  She eclipsed the WSU single-game strikeout record with 18 punchouts in the 3-2 12-inning triumph over the Rangers. Long then pitched a seven-inning shutout of Roosevelt on Sunday. Long finished the weekend with a 2-0 record, a 0.74 ERA, and 22 strikeouts to four walks and an opponent batting average of .098 (6-for-61). Against UWP, she walked Mia Johnson and hit three of the next five batters to score Johnson. Two doubles in the second plated Parkside's second run. Johnson finished 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the game. Long allowed just three hits in 12 innings and the two earned runs while striking out 18 (previous mark of 17 was set in 2007 by WSU Hall of Famer Molly Yetman). She walked two and plunked three while throwing a career-high 188 pitches. On Sunday, Long scattered three singles to extend her scoreless innings streak.
