Grand Valley State selected as 2026 GLIAC women's lacrosse preseason favorites

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the results of the 2026 women's lacrosse preseason poll today, Friday, Jan. 30.

The poll was determined by a vote of the league coaches.

Grand Valley State, which won its 12th GLIAC title a season ago, was chosen No. 1, receiving four first-place votes and a total of 16 points. GVSU has won 43 consecutive regular season GLIAC contests and made four-straight NCAA Tournament Appearances.    

Three points back, at No. 2, and earning the sole other first-place vote is Northern Michigan. The Wildcats return the 2025 GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and 2024 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, junior Josie Lakosky, who totaled 91 points (69 goals, 22 assists) last season.

Concordia-St. Paul was ranked third in the poll with 10 points. Led by 2025 GLIAC Coach of the Year, Alison Jennings, the Golden Bears will be headlined this season by 2025 GLIAC Midfielder of the Year, Susie Monson, and 2025 GLIAC Defender of the Year, Claire Flahaven.

Davenport was selected to place fourth (7 points). The Panthers are under new leadership in 2026, with Frank Rogers taking over head coaching duties. 

Second-year program Saginaw Valley State finished in fifth place (4 points).

The 2026 season officially begins on Friday, Feb. 13 with Northern Michigan and Concordia-St. Paul in action.
