OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrew Schuster, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State redshirt freshman quarterback Andrew Schuster completed 22-of-32 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns in the Lakers' 48-36 victory over Black Hills State. The 391 passing yards is a GVSU freshman record and tied for ninth on the list of all-time, single-game passing yards. Schuster completed passes to 10 different receivers, tallied seven completions of 30 yards or more and he engineered seven scoring drives that did not eclipse 2:39 seconds. In addition, five touchdown drives were 65 yards or more. Schuster has completed 39-of-53 passes (73.5) for 642 yards and seven touchdowns in his first two collegiate starts.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kailib Davis, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior defensive tackle Kailib Davis helped the nation’s top-ranked Bulldogs turn in a dominating defensive effort in a decisive 63-6 road win at Lake Erie on Saturday. Davis controlled the middle of the line of scrimmage and came up with three tackles for loss (-15 yards) and two sacks (-14 yards) in a balanced effort. The FSU defense came up with three turnovers and had five sacks while holding the Storm to only 124 yards of total offense, including only 58 rushing yards. LEC had only 27 total yards in the first half with only five yards on the ground. The Bulldogs played all 70 players in uniform while extending their unbeaten streak to 16 consecutive games.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mauricio Escudero, Roosevelt
Mauricio Escudero has earned GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time in his career after scoring 11 points in Roosevelt's season-opening 23-21 win over Quincy last Saturday.
