Parkside's Johnson and Saginaw Valley State's Irelan recognized as GLIAC softball player and pitcher of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2025 softball season. Parksidie junior catcher/infielder Mia Johnson earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors while Saginaw Valley State junior hurler Macy Irelan was selected GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mia Johnson, Parkside
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference has announced Mia Johnson as the GLIAC Softball Player of the Week. Johnson had an insane week to open GLIAC play, helping the Rangers to a 3-1 conference record and improve to 12-10 overall. Johnson was a force to be reckoned with at the dish. The junior and reigning GLIAC Player of the Year would bat .600 across four games played. She racked up five homeruns over the week, including four in Parkside’s doubleheader against Grand Valley State. In total she drove in 11 runs and collected nine extra base hits in just 15 at bats. In the field Johnson was just as impressive, recording 10 putouts across the four games played. She held a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while playing at third base and behind the dish for the Rangers.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Macy Irelan, Saginaw Valley State
Macy Irelan got off to a hot start in her home debut for the Cardinals as she struck out six of the first 10 Davenport batters she faced through the first three innings of game one. She ended the afternoon with eight strikeouts and allowed just one hit to complete her ninth game of the season (1st in the GLIAC) and improve to 6-3 in the circle with one save so far this season. Irelan currently leads the GLIAC in hits allowed per seven innings with 3.35 (2nd in NCAA DII), shutouts with two, strikeout-to-walk ratio with 6.47 (24th NCAA DII), strikeouts with 97, strikeouts per seven innings with 10.8 (4th NCAA DII), and a WHIP of 0.72, which is third best in the country, She also has the second-lowest ERA in the league with 1.34, which is 23rd in the nation.
