GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of the 2025 softball season. Wayne State freshman third baseman Katelyn Dewitt received GLIAC Player of the Week recognition while Parkside junior hurler Ellie Curtis earned GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Katelyn Dewitt, Wayne State
Freshman third baseman Katelyn DeWitt had a spectacular start to her collegiate career helping the Warriors to two wins (and an extra-inning setback at No. 28-Lincoln Memorial) by hitting .667 (8-for-12) with six runs scored and 10 RBI. DeWitt had four extra-base hits (three doubles and first career home run) for a 1.167 slugging percentage. After striking out in her first collegiate plate appearance, DeWitt had a two-run double in the bottom of the third vs. Kentucky Wesleyan to make it 3-0. In her next at bat, she hit a laser to centerfield that skipped by the outfielder letting a runner score from first (no RBI). She went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI against Lincoln Memorial. DeWitt had an RBI double in the top of the first to score the game's first run. Katelyn smacked her first career home run, a two-run shot, in the fourth to knot the game at 4-4. She contributed an RBI single in the fifth, which put WSU ahead 6-5. In the 11-6 triumph over Davis & Elkins, DeWitt went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. She had an RBI single and scored in the second as part of a four-run frame. Katelyn had an RBI single in the third which made it 6-0. DeWitt had a two-run double in the fifth and worked a full-count walk in the seventh.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Ellie Curtis, Parkside
Ellie Curtis opens her 2025 season by securing GLIAC Pitcher of the Week Honors. It’s her first time in her career reeling in the honor. Curtis was lights out in the Rangers second game of their season-opening doubleheader. The Lockport, Ill. native tossed six inning in an 8-0 run-rule shutout. En route to her shutout she would allow just one hit, while striking out four. She worked around two walks while facing a total of 22 batters.
