NMU's Lakosky and Bates earn GLIAC women's lacrosse players of the week awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of play of the 2025 women's lacrosse season. Northern Michigan swept the honors, with sophomore attacker Josie Lakosky earning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors and senior defender Norah Bates receiving GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josie Lakosky, Northern Michigan
Josie Lakosky led the Wildcat offense over the weekend, scoring seven goals and an assist for eight points in two wins to start the 2025 season for the Wildcats. Lakosky opened the season by scoring six goals, tying her career high in a single game, against Walsh in a 19-6 win. Along with her six goals, Lakosky posted a .500 shooting percentage, a career-high nine draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. It was a team effort on Sunday against UW-Stout, a game that saw Lakosky score a goal and assist with four draw controls with a .467 shooting percentage.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Norah Bates, Northern Michigan
Norah Bates had a terrific opening weekend on the back end, earning her a GLIAC Defender of the Week honor. The Wildcats only allowed seven goals over two games, with Bates a major reason for that. Bates led all student-athletes in the game against Walsh with three ground balls and three caused turnovers with two draw controls. This marked the first time in her career she recorded three caused turnovers and the first time she’s had three ground balls and three turnovers in a single game.
