WSU's Giroux and Dulgar, NMU's Haugen recognized as GLIAC volleyball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 5 of the 2025 volleyball season. Wayne State senior Kayla Giroux earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, Northern Michigan junior Liesl Haugen was selected as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Wayne State junior Kayla Dulgar was named GLIAC Setter of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kayla Giroux, Wayne State
Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.) earned GLIAC weekly honors for the sixth time (five offensive, one defensive) in her career on Monday. For the most recent honor, her second of the season, Giroux hit .324 with 31 kills and just nine errors on 68 total attacks. Of those 31 kills, 21 (two shy of career high) came in the 3-2 win at No. 18 Grand Valley State on Thursday night with a season-best 45 attempts and .356 hitting percentage. Then on Saturday in the victory at Purdue Northwest, Giroux notched 10 kills and four mishaps on 23 total attacks for a .261 hitting percentage.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Liesl Haugen, Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan libero Liesl Haugen has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, the second time the junior has earned the honor in her career. Haugen helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of road wins over Saginaw Valley State and Lake Superior State, tying a season-high with 25 digs in a five-set thriller against SVSU and following it up with 16 digs in a three-set victory at LSSU. The Maple Grove, Minnesota, native also stepped in as a setter when needed, recording three assists in each match. Now averaging 4.88 digs per set over her four GLIAC matches, Haugen ranks fourth in the conference in the category, continuing to be a key defensive anchor for the Wildcats.
SETTER OF THE WEEK: Kayla Dulgar, Wayne State
Kayla Dulgar (Warsaw, Ohio / River View) became a five-time GLIAC Setter of the Week on Monday, including her second distinction of 2025. While Wayne State was going 2-0 on the road last week, Dulgar racked up 82 assists, which is good for 10.25 per set. The junior passer also registered three service aces (all at PNW) and 15 total digs.
